New Teacher Induction Programme
Introduction
The purpose of the new teacher induction programme is to produce independent new teachers who engage meaningfully in systems, structures and practices which culminate in lifelong learning through, among others, CPTD and build up to high-quality professional teaching and learning. In order to do this, a quality induction programme must enable new teachers and principals to adjust to become part of the school at which they have been appointed, the community in which it is situated, and the broader education system in which they function.
The induction programme provides an important bridge between initial teacher training and teaching practice. Through structured support, and working alongside a mentor teacher, the induction programme will assist beginner teachers to apply theoretical knowledge and enrich teaching practice.
