SAOU (Suid Afrikaanse Onderwys Unie) is an organization that aims to unite and support South African teachers and educators. Here are some reasons why I joined SAOU
1. Professional development: Offers training and development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay updated on best practices.2. Advocacy: SAOU advocates for teachers’ rights, better working conditions, and improved education policies.
3. Networking opportunities: SAOU events and conferences offer chances to connect with fellow educators, share ideas
4. Personal growth: Being part of SAOU can lead to personal growth, as members develop new skills, build confidence, and make a positive impact on education.
5. Protection and support: SAOU offers legal support, counseling, and guidance for members facing challenges or disputes in the workplace.
6. Contribution to education: By joining SAOU, members can contribute to shaping education policies, improving teaching conditions, and enhancing student learning experiences.

I am an active member of Sadtu. The reason for choosing them is because of their values and understanding of the department and environment of educators. They respect the values of educators and follow all correct procedures where necessary. A union like them follow and needs to always follow all correct procedures and be up. To date with all law changes and the effects thereof.

The union is always helpful and replies quickly to E-mails. The union aims to develop their members to the best of their ability with free workshops and information sessions. The union shares important information, from the department, so it becomes known to them.
I would like to apply to the SAOU, to be a member.

Part of being an eductor is to belong to a union that represents and serves your best interests and needs. However, teachers no longer have faith in unions. Unions are failing and selling us. What happens when unions fail to do that which they are intended to do for the betterment of the masses of teachers? I say, ban unions.
