I have completed my mid year appraisal. I need to work on time management and encouraging participation amongst the learners.

I sometimes find it difficult to use differentiation strategies for learners with learning barriers as our classes are consisting of 40 learners.
I find that it slows down our pace of work for the average to strong learner and that for 2/40 learners. it sometimes gets slightly frustrating for myself and the learners with a good work pace. And when I speak of learning barriers it is two learners from about 40 and they needs accommodation(consessions) for time, readers, scribes and I personally struggle to understand why educators and learners stronger learners should be slowed down so much for two learners.
So to summarise my problem/short fall – I struggle to understand and slow down for a small percentage of learners and hold up the absolute majority.

This is really worrying me as well. I spent more time trying to find strategies to help learners struggling. I find it hard to differentiate the activities.

I struggled to balance between the classroom management and monitoring educators work this year. I am a Grade 1, teaching Grade 1 for the first time in my teaching career and FP Departmental head with 8 educators under my supervision. I spent most of my time in teaching and learning and trying to find ways to simplify the content and implementing improvement strategies, thus lead to controlling educators work fortnightly.

I still need to get more help in new forms of how to implement discipline and the way in which learners could be made to focus more into their studies than misbehaving.

Thank you for your reflection. Supporting learner focus and managing discipline are key challenges many educators face.
Consider:
1. Clear routines and consistent expectations.
2. Positive reinforcement and behaviour charts.
3. Restorative conversations to build accountability.
4. Joining a PLC to share strategies and gain peer support.
