Our school doesn’t have many extra mural activities. We have soccer and athletics. We are also a Massa School, as a Visual Art and Creative Arts teacher I get exposed to a lot of creative kids with MASSIVE amounts of talent, but when it comes to subject choice, learners with creative ability are forced to do subject for their career choices(understandably so) and as a result have to neglect their creative side. This is quite detrimental to creative pupils. Opening an Arts and Culture society will present non-academic opportunities for learners to express themselves….not only will the have the benefit of doing something creative that they love, they will do it without any pressure for good marks. People who enjoy their jobs produce higher quality work performance, this will also allow learners, who might not be as booksmart, another opportunity to prune their creative and practical skills. Teachers who will involve themselves, will be granted the opportunity to build better quality relationships with learners, and that will perhaps bridge the communication gap in classrooms.
