From the moment I started my journey of being a pedagogical practitioner, I have wanted to join SADTU and that is exactly what I did. I joined this union because it has been around for a long time, advocating for the rights of educators as well as our welfare.

I’ve always wanted to be a member of SADTU. I believe that SADTU aims to unite the teachers and all education workers and it strives to work for a non-racial, non-sexist and democratic system of education in a free and democratic South Africa.

I have joined the SAOU because the SAOU provides legal advice and representation in cases of workplace disputes, disciplinary hearings, or grievances. This ensures you are not alone if challenges arise. The union offers workshops, courses, and resources to help teachers stay updated on best practices, policies, and trends in education, which enhances your skills and career prospects. SAOU actively advocates for better working conditions, fair salaries, and benefits for teachers by engaging with education authorities and policymakers. Members often receive access to teaching materials, lesson planning resources, and networks that can make daily tasks more manageable and effective. I think it is important to be part of a union because unions negotiate with employers and the government on behalf of their members, securing better pay, benefits, and working conditions than individual teachers could achieve alone.
