    <div>
</div><div>Characteristic: Professional Relationship with Learners (Respect and Care)</div><div>
</div><div>I consider this characteristic critical because as a teacher, my first responsibility is to create a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for all learners. When learners feel respected and cared for, they are more likely to participate actively, perform better academically, and develop positive social skills. Respect also builds trust between the teacher and learners, which is essential for effective teaching and learning.</div><div>
</div><div>In South Africa, where many learners face challenges such as poverty, inequality, and violence, the teacher’s role as a respectful and caring figure can make a lasting difference in their lives. By modeling respect, I also teach learners how to respect one another, which contributes to building a more tolerant and peaceful society.</div><div>

How you conduct yourself and how you treat others as a teacher is very important. It says a lot about you and the type of teacher you want to be. It sets the tone and makes the workplace more conducive

Professionalism in the workplace is not practical, our colleagues and managers are biased based on personal relationships. It’s not about the work priorities, but the personal vendettas.

I have done my QMS and it was not proper conducted fairly or properly done according to what we were taught during the induction on QMS because I was not made aware of the expectations during the visit and the feedback was not communicated. I expected the interview prior to lesson observation.

Being in the class on time set the tone for your lessons. Better still wait for your learners outside the class.

I believe in promoting gender equality in the classroom. Because learners need to feel free in the classroom and this will make a conducive environment in the classroom as learners will feel comfortable thus making teaching and learning condusive.

One important characteristic of the Code of Professional Ethics is Integrity.

Integrity is critical because it forms the foundation of trust between professionals, learners, colleagues, parents, and the community. A teacher or professional who upholds integrity demonstrates honesty, fairness, and consistency in their actions. This ensures that decisions are made in the best interest of learners rather than for personal gain. Without integrity, respect and credibility are easily lost, which can negatively affect the learning environment and professional relationships. Integrity also guides professionals to act ethically even in difficult situations, making it a cornerstone of responsible practice.

    My chosen section is 1.2

[The teacher] acknowledges the uniqueness, individuality, and specific needs of each learner, guiding and encouraging each to realise his or her potentialities;. I believe that because our society is rich in diversity, and our classrooms are filled with learners coming from unique cultural backgrounds and socio-economic contexts, it is extremely important that teachers make it their priority to ensure that all learners in their care are acknowledged as unique individuals, having their own prior knowledge and guiding experiences which shape their understanding of the world around them. It is imperative that all learners feel accepted and respect for their unique identity, and feel celebrated for the personal contribution that they bring to the classroom. Inclusive, multicultural education is especially relevant in trying to establish systems of equity, and fostering a sense of belonging for each child in the classroom, while ensuring that learning and teaching is accessible through differentiation and using various sources of information that reflect a variety of cultural and ethnic identities to inform classroom teaching.

    1. Respect- Punctuality shows respect for students, colleagues, and the learning process.

    2. Professionalism: Regular attendance and punctuality demonstrate professionalism and accountability.

    3. Learning Continuity: Timely starts ensure smooth transitions and minimize disruptions.

    4. Student Engagement: Starting lessons on time helps maintain student focus and engagement.

By being punctual, teachers set a positive tone, promote a productive learning environment, and model valuable life skills for students.

punctuality is important because it shows reliability, professionalism and it also shows respect for other people’s time. Teaching and learning will start on time and lessons will be effective due to efficient use of time and it also create better learning environment. Punctuality also helps in managing time and tasks effectively.

Recognising, where appropriate, learners as partners in education is one characteristic that I consider critical because without the presence of learners, the imparting and delivering of the art that is education would be as good as non-existence. Not only is that important, as much as being a teacher is a very noble role, having learners who reflect the quality of THE education you provide makes it even more rewarding. “Teachers are lifelong learners” is another perfect example of teachers being partners with their learners in education because learners recognise and see beyond what we see: our errors, mistakes and imperfection and they never fail to point them out in order to make their experience less imperfect.

What I have realised about us, new teachers is that we are still failing when it comes to dress code.
