Acknowledge that the attitude, dedication, self-discipline, ideals, training and conduct of the teaching profession determine the quality of education in this country.

I believe that these qualities and traits are extremely important to have as pedagogical practitioners in order to progress the level of education in our country. Education needs to be elevated to a level where it is taken seriously by all in our country. Now that we live in a time where free tertiary education is available to those eligible, we must ensure that learners stive towards their best academically and that can only be attained when we give them the best learning experience professionally.

School attendance. Consistent attendance demonstrates that you’re dependable, responsible and serious about your job. It is important for teachers to always be available at work as frequency of absence lead to content gap and being left behind with curriculum.

I strongly think that the accountability is critical. As professionals we are expected to take responsibility for our actions and decisions. Learners should also take responsibility to answer for their actions, decisions and consequences.

Punctuality plays a big role in our career. As teachers we should lead by example.

You cannot tell learners not to come to class or to school late while you are always late.

How you interact with different stakeholders within the school is important. Colleagues should be respected, and supported. Learners should be treated equally and have a positive relationship with them. Parents should be notified and be called to school regarding their children’s progress.

Reflection on Respect for Learners’ Rights and Dignity:

Respecting learners’ rights and dignity involves acknowledging their individuality, beliefs, and constitutional rights, including privacy and confidentiality. It requires educators to create a safe and supportive environment that honors each student’s unique background and needs.

Why is Respect for Learners’ Rights and Dignity Critical?

Fosters a Safe Learning Environment: When students feel respected and valued, they are more likely to engage actively in the learning process, leading to better academic outcomes.

Promotes Emotional and Social Development: Respectful interactions help students develop confidence, self-esteem, and social skills, which are essential for their overall growth.

Ensures Equity and Inclusivity: Recognizing and valuing diversity within the classroom helps prevent discrimination and promotes equal opportunities for all students.

Builds Trust and Positive Relationships: Respectful behavior fosters trust between educators and students, leading to stronger teacher-student relationships and a more harmonious classroom atmosphere.

By upholding this principle, educators not only comply with ethical standards but also contribute significantly to the holistic development of their students, preparing them to be responsible and empathetic members of society.

The educator and the parent stand out to me.

Learners need support from their parents when it comes to their education. The parent must partner with the teachers of his/her child to follow their progress. This will help the learner to be assisted easily when they face challenges in their academic career.

One key characteristic in the Code of Professional Ethics is Integrity. Integrity is critical because it ensures that teachers act honestly, fairly, and consistently in their professional duties. Teachers serve as role models for learners , and their ethical behavior fosters a culture of trust and respect in the learning environment.
By demonstrating integrity, educators uphold the credibility of the profession, build strong relationships with learners and colleagues, and maintain professional boundaries. Integrity also ensures that decisions are made in the best interests of learners, free from bias or personal gain. Without integrity, the educational system risks losing credibility, and students may not receive the guidance and support they deserve.
